His Eminence, Cardinal Gerald C. Lacroix
Archbishop of Québec and Primate of Canada
Franco-American of the Year

Gerald Cyprien Lacroix was born in Saint-Hilaire-de-Dorset in the Archdiocese of Québec. He completed his secondary and higher education at Trinity High School and Saint Anselm College in Manchester, NH. He holds Ba (theology) and MA (pastoral theology) degrees from Laval University. In 1975, he was accepted at the Pius X Secular Institute and took perpetual vows in 1982. He became Secretary General of the Institute in 1982 and, since 1985, has been Director of the General Council.

Father Lacroix was ordained priest in October 1988. From 1990 to 2000, he worked in Columbia. From 2001 to 2010, he was Director General of the Pius X Secular Institute.

Msgr Lacroix was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Québec in April 2009, then Archbishop of Quebec and primate of Canada in February, 2011. He was elevated to the College of Cardinals in February 2014.

Cardinal Lacroix received an honorary doctorate of Divinity from Saint Anselm College and was commencement speaker in 2011.
