The Honorable Christopher T. Sununu and The American Friends of Lafayette cordially invite you to attend the commemoration of New Hampshire Lafayette Day, the inauguration of the Lafayette Trail in New Hampshire, and the dedication of the Lafayette Elm outside the State House.
The Franco-American Centre will join with the Lafayette Society and the State of NH in celebrating Lafayette Day. This day, commemorated each year in NH and other states, recognizes the contributions of the Marquis de Lafayette during the Revolutionary War. Perhaps more importantly, it serves as a moment to celebrate the long-standing friendship between the people of France and those of the United States.

The Marquis de Lafayette, the first foreign dignitary to address a Joint Meeting of the Congress in 1824, was presented to the House by French artist Ary Sheffer that year in honor of the occasion. (U.S. House description of the painting, which hangs to the left of the Speaker’s rostrum.)
