The Franco-American Centre, through a special arrangement with the Dana Center for the Performing Arts, invites you to enjoy DakhaBrakha & the Yves Lambert Trio Friday, April 22, 2016 7:30 p.m.
Enjoy an evening of incredible ‘trad’ music with an edge that is totally 21st Century! The Ukraine’s astonishing quartet DakhaBrakha (which means ‘give/take’ in Ukrainian) is a punk-folk-circus-rock band whose members stride onto the stage in full Cossack regalia, including those amazingly tall, black, curly sheepswool hats. They share the evening with the kamikaze style of Quebec’s Yves Lambert Trio, whose brilliant technique demonstrates how roots music continually reinvents itself within modern contexts.
Yves Lambert himself is revered as a patriarch of the Quebec traditional music revival. With the Yves Lambert Trio he proves conclusively that the newest music often springs from the oldest roots, with a wall of sound that seems impossible for such a small group. Prepare to be electrified!
